Have you ever wanted to go out to have fun but you don’t know where to go, or are you new in an environment and you are looking for how to connect with people of similar interest?. Perhaps the kind of fun activities you want to engage in are probably around you but you are not aware? Are you trying to plan an event but need people with similar interest to participate? These the recurring experiences people face every time and yet no solution that can various individual needs has emerged.


There are many online platform that links people to events but people still complain of not knowing where to go? This simply mean that the available platforms haven’t been able to nail the experience perfectly. So what is that loophole that is left to be filled?


There are lots of event apps or websites that basically connect people to the event they have interest in, but these platforms are missing the sweet spot of any event creating which is “The act of planning an event together”.


How do you feel when you cook together with your spouse or loved ones, family, friends, the communication in-between, the jokes, little games and many more things. You feel super amazing, the atmosphere is just perfect. The act of cooking is more interesting, memorable than the food it self.


Not only cooking with your spouse, how do you feel when you plan activities with your friends, wedding engagement, prom, date nights, surprise party, the excitement, the joy and other positive feelings affects the level of expectation from the main event itself. You can’t just wait to see how beautiful the event will turn out to be. Now think of this on a large scale with lots of like-minds involved.


These scenarios mentioned above is just exact way we feel when we plan anything together with the people we love or have similar interest with. 


The process of planning the events matters a lots and have equal or better feeling than the event.

Basically we knew there was a problem of locating events that interest you because you are not aware that such event are taking place, so we thought building a product that allow people see event happening around them based on their interest, get digital access code for event, then also build payment system around it.This looks like what other platforms does right?


We wanted to build something unique, different, something to make creating event super fun and interesting.


Deep research centered around; creating event, the interesting part of creating events was conducted. Through these resources and insight, We discovered the missing sweet spot of event creation and participating which is “The act of planning an event together” and that’s how we reshaped vision for the project towards giving users this delightful experiences of discovering and creating events with people of similar interests around them.

Insights from Research

To justify the new product direction, we did survey to verify our product viability, and we discover that 49.1% are highly interested in creating event with people, 34.5% are interested and 16.4% are not sure, giving us 83.6% of people are interested in creating event with people of similar interest.


Also we discover that 87.3 wants to go out sometimes but they are not sure of where to go. With this valuable insights we have, the new product idea was verified enough with high viability, and we have better direction on how to design the product.

Once user are onboarded, they are taken directly to discover section. At first, the page is blank, every users will have to set the type of event they want to see on their timeline.

Users also have the ability to search for any topic or event randomly but the result is based on the interest they picked. We designed the search system to allow people search for event from other locations.

User can create event with few clicks. One of the things we thought thoroughly in creating event was how to attendee or people who have interest gets to see the post and how can host manage numbers of people who wants to attended the event.


When users are creating their event, we designed it in a way that they get a preview of how their event will be seen by any user.

Host can limit or decide numbers of attendees to be limitless. This is design to motivate people to quickly join and that’s why people can see others that have join. What we tried to do is to create sense of urgency and interest so that there won’t be lots of event creation and few people are interested.

How can host showcase their event to people with similar interest? This question brought up a lots of scenarios on how event awareness happens, but the scenarios revolve around these 3 factors.


They know who they want in the event

They need anyone interested

They have some people but need anyone interested to join.


Here host can share publicly, so any user that follow under the category of the post will the event.

To make the process seamless and straightforward, when the host has set attendee number to a certain figure let’s say 10 people, and the host choose to invite people directly, if the host tag only 6 out of 10 people, the system automatically will prompt a button to share to public as well so that the numbers of users they needed for the event can complete. This is very useful when people want to organize quick event like street soccer, and you need people to join in the event, you already have some people but need more people, just invite the people you know and share publicly.

We create 2 features to help facilitate communication and easy planning. These features are “Itinerary and“Poll”.

The poll will help members create questions and survey to help users determine and make decisions quickly.

We all know how group conversations can be, some information go deep while some are just one level, to make the experience better, users can easily convert a chat to thread, so every reply to that is under the thread. We leverage on the existing pattern that works; “double tap” chat to activate pop-up to sell actions from like add to itinerary, reply, delete and “make thread”.

We make sure we craft very simple yet elegant UI for users to be able to extra the information they need properly from the notification.

For a more detail system it is very important to designed for edge cases. Most of the time is where the sweet experience of product are seen properly.


One of the edge case in the product was; was if the host is share the event publicly and has unlimited numbers of attendee or even has limited numbers, how effective can the host review and approve users interest? Imagine 0ver 300 people are showing interest in your event, that’s lot of work to approve everyone one after the other. To make this complex activity easy, we designed button to “accept interested users automatically”.

The product is currently in its version 1, we basically focused on solving the core problem, there are lots we are working for the next version. We need more features to make planning more delightful and interesting, gamified some features to help me planning interesting, because the goal is give people ability to create for any situation. We are very granular in our thinking and strategy, we want people to be able use the product for things that we can’t consider, for instance, creating event to help people push your car because it got stuck, it looks out of place but that’s how users thinks and use product, so we want to create a product to accommodate their wildest imagination


On a wider note we plan to build a collector for social media platforms. It’s going to be a long and challenging ride, but designing delightful products is what I enjoy doing. Can’t wait for the challenges and wins that comes with the project.
